WOUNDTEK, INC ANNOUNCES
NEW PRODUCTS: STAR PADS
NEW PRODUCTS COMPLIMENT THE CLINICAL SUCCESS OF THE SUTURE TENSION
ADJUSTMENT REEL.
NEWPORT, RI, February 12,
2007 - WoundTEK, Inc., a privately
held medical device company, announced today that it has released
a new product to compliment its STAR device wound closure product;
STAR PADS.
STAR PADS are soft polypropylene
pads that are designed to fit exactly beneath the edges of the STAR
device. The STAR PADS provide increased comfort, reduce instance
of blistering beneath the devices during prolonged use, and decrease
the risk of laceration of tissue at wound margins. They are simply
applied by sliding them in between the tissue and the STAR device
and are easily changed as needed. STAR PADS are sterile packaged
"two to a pouch" from a dispenser box filled with 12 pouches
in each dispenser. STAR PADS are now available from WoundTEK directly
or from any WoundTEK distributor that sells the STAR device.
"We are very pleased
with the results we have seen in clinical trials from the addition
of the STAR PADS to cases where our STAR device is placed for prolonged
use. In Instances where the STAR device will be present for more
than five days, the STAR PADS add comfort and greatly reduced risk
of complications" said Andrew Reilly, WoundTEK’s Chief
Executive.
WoundTEK, Inc., which
grew almost 300% in revenues in its second year is poised to become
a leader in the wound closure market space.
WoundTEK, based in Newport, RI is a medical device
company focused on the closure of large wounds and skin deficits
caused by trauma or surgery. The company manufactures The S.T.A.R.
Device, the first minimally invasive tissue expansion device, for
the closure of large open wounds that cannot be closed using primary
closure measures. The S.T.A.R. is a simple, effective and proven
method of closing acute wounds, chronic wounds, and various skin
deficits.
Large wound closure is a major health care problem
worldwide and is one of the leading causes of deadly infections
in the United States. Almost 2,00,000 trauma cases and surgical
procedures each year are faced with the challenge of closing large
wounds and skin deficits using delayed primary or secondary closure
methods. Current procedures to close large wounds can be technically
demanding, increase the risk of infection, and be very invasive,
painful, and have deep scaring effects to the tissue. The S.T.A.R.
System reduces many of the challenges that are currently faced by
surgeons today.
